New Digital Identity Verification legislation comes into effect on 1st October – and it promises to be a game-changer for businesses.
Rather than meeting candidates in person, or checking and copying original identification documents, businesses will be allowed to digitally verify the identity of candidates applying for a job.
As well as making the recruitment process much easier for your candidates, this new legislation has huge potential benefits for your company by reducing time-to-hire, saving staff resource, making it easier for you to meet your legal obligations, and reducing the risk of fraud.
On 7th September, Verifile’s Head of Customer Success, Alex Belford, is hosting a webinar for our key clients to share the processes businesses need to have in place by 1st October.
Participants will also see a demonstration of our new certified software and will be able to put their questions directly to our partners Yoti and Post Office EasyID, as well as Verifile’s Senior Solutions Consultant, David Cole, and Customer Success Manager, Jace Kim.
What are Digital Identity Checks?
Digital Identity Checks are a new government-approved method to digitally verify the identity of candidates applying for a job.
When you verify your applicants’ identities digitally, you no longer need to meet them in person or check and copy their original identification documents.
Digital Identity Checks can be used for Right to Work, Right to Rent, DBS, and Disclosure Scotland.
During the pandemic, temporary measures were introduced that enabled businesses to perform identity checks remotely using copies of identification documents. These measures will END on the 30th September 2022.
From 1st October 2022, businesses will either need to be in possession of original IDs to do an identity check OR have a Digital ID verification platform in place to manage the whole process on your behalf.
How does Verifile’s Digital Identity Verification platform work?
At Verifile, we have partnered with industry leaders Yoti and Post Office EasyID to build software that will enable your candidates to do their ID checks using an app on their smartphone or device.
Here’s how it works:
- The candidate uses the camera and, where possible, the chip reader on their smartphone or tablet, to carry out security checks on their identity documents.
- They take a selfie and this likeness is digitally compared to the photo on the identity document. Note: it’s much more difficult to use a fake identity in a digital identity check than it is in person so digital identity checking reduces the risk of fraud.
- The checks take a couple of minutes and the result is available immediately. We notify the employer automatically once the process is complete.
