Stepping Hill: the foreign nurses scandal involving bogus papers

Prosecutors are warned of how easy it is to forge qualifications after Victorino Chua murdered two patients and poisoned 20 others during 2011. Chua presented photocopies of medical certificates to fool employers at Stockport's Stepping Hill hospital and it is feared thousands of foreign nurses could be working with bogus qualifications.

Since then, new checks have been put in place to ensure more stringent checks for foreign nurses. The Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) launched a major review after Chua's arrest, checking the background of 14,000 nurses.
