What does it check?
- Employer’s name and address
- Period of employment
- Position held
- Reason for leaving
- Disciplinary action taken against the candidate
- Would the employer re-employ the candidate
- Absence, salary and a number of other questions
Good practice is to verify employment records with the Human Resources department and not with people who worked with the candidate. If you are interested in subjective information about the candidate’s performance we recommend adding a character reference from a line manager.
There is no limit to the number of employer references you can request. The more past employers you check, the clearer a picture you will build about an individual, helping to identify any gaps and discrepancies.
Employer reference checks can be ordered to cover a specific period (eg. the last 5 years) or a number of employers. Verifile can work with you to design and manage any screening policy.
How long does this service take?
Using Verifile’s online system, employers will automatically be sent an email or fax form to return. Response times vary, as Verifile depends on the employer’s participation. We aim to give you a response within 5 - 10 working days — but if we cannot achieve that, we will let you know why.
Please see our services page for more details.
