How to be prepared for Brazil’s new sweeping privacy law

The Brazilian National Congress has approved Provisional Measure no. 869/18, which incorporates some important changes to the Brazilian General Data Protection Law that will take effect on August 16, 2020.

Those changes include the amount of fines or other sanctions that a non-compliant company may be subject to; how a company’s data protection officer’s position must be structured; the importance of data protection training programs; and the fact that new projects and business plans should always be evaluated according to the new data protection rules and principles.
