Criminal record check

What does it cover?

The Romania Criminal Record Certificate contains the following information:

• Personal details of the applicant, such as name, date and place of birth, identity document number and parents’ names.
• Confirmation of whether or not the individual has any criminal record in Romania.
• Details of any convictions, including the nature of the offense, date of conviction, and the court's decision.
• Information on any ongoing criminal investigations or pending charges.
• Document identifiers (issue date, reference number, and official seal) that allow verification of authenticity.

Additional Considerations

All categories of criminal convictions are included on the certificate. Convictions are removed after: 

• The offences committed are no longer considered a crime by criminal law 
• Amnesty 
• Acquittal or miscellaneous cessation of criminal proceedings
• 2 years have passed since the judgement of postponement of the penalty remained final and the revocation or the cancellation of the postponement as not ordered according to art. 88 and 89 from the Penal Code
• 5 years have passed since an administrative sanction from those stipulated on article 91 of Law no. 15/1968 concerning the Penal Code was applied
• 20 years have passed after fines were imposed or imprisonment of up to 3 years
• Imprisonment of more than 3 years remains on record until death

Results

Verifile provides a copy of the obtained certificate to the customer for their records/decision-making and confirms whether any convictions have been found. 

Did you know?

• Using the government’s official channels, Verifile can also officially authenticate self-obtained digital certificates provided by candidates.
• The certificate is generally valid for 6 months from the date of issuance, though some institutions or governments may only accept certificates issued within the last 3 months.
